A process to extract trace lithium from brine
With our technology we are able to produce lithium from brines, such as the brines that are produced from geothermal plants. With our process, the trace lithium in the high-salinity brine binds to a sorbent. Once the sorbent is loaded with lithium we separate the lithium from the sorbent resulting in a high concentration of lithium chloride.
Our sorbent has demonstrated high selectivity for lithium with 99%+ capture efficiency.
Patent Portfolio

TerraLithium currently operates a lab and pilot plant in Brawley, California located in the second-largest geothermal field in the U.S. We have tested our technologies at these facilities and continue R&D to further improve sorbent performance.
We have entered into a joint venture with BHE Renewables for the demonstration and deployment of our technologies to extract and commercially produce high-purity lithium compounds from geothermal brine. BHE Renewables operates 10 geothermal power plants in California's Imperial Valley, where the joint venture has begun a project to demonstrate the feasibility of using TerraLithium's direct lithium extraction technology to produce lithium in an environmentally safe manner.
TerraLithium plans to develop lithium production facilities beyond the Imperial Valley to meet the global demand for a more sustainable lithium.
